WebSphere 6.1 uses a Java implementation called "IBM Technology for Java" (IT4J) which is based on the same technology that IBM uses on other system platforms. IT4J provides a 32-bit implementation which can offer both performance improvements and reduced memory requirements for many applications. Customers now have a choice to run either WebSphere 6.0 Classic 64-bit or WebSphere 6.1 IT4J 32-bit with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software.
