La Crosse, Wisconsin-based Stansfield Vending sells, leases, and services a wide variety of vending machines. Stansfield needed to stabilize its application server, which co-existed on the same computer as DNS and DHCP servers. The DNS and DHCP servers frequently overloaded the application server. Because Stansfield Vending was already familiar with Windows Server System, the decision to upgrade one of its servers to Windows Server 2008 to handle DNS and DHCP services was relatively easy. The firm was looking for a reliable solution to provide a platform for integration, and that would also provide some prescriptive guidance for next steps in the evolution of the system. Cost of software, interoperability, performance, and cost of hardware were all considerations in the decision to deploy Windows Server 2008.
