In the process of becoming one of the largest industrial equipment manufacturers in the world, this company accumulated a host of legacy supply chain management systems that were proving to be a deterrent for the company in gaining end-to-end visibility in its massive service parts business, making it hard to collaborate with supply chain partners. Also, some of the legacy systems were highly customized resulted in high operating costs and didn't scale well as the company continued to grow. This company wanted to make its service business operate as efficiently as possible, providing it the ability to enhance planning capabilities, respond more quickly to changes in demand, meet customer requests at light speed, and do a lot more. To achieve its goal, the company sought assistance from Deloitte, a leading outsourced business management and consulting services provider. Deloitte worked closely with this company and its key supply chain partners in their efforts to better understand its business challenges. Together, they realized that this was not merely a supply chain challenge, but a service parts management challenge. Achieving the company's aggressive goals for visibility and responsiveness in this complex environment would require a new industry solution. The company engaged SAP to develop a new industry solution for service parts management. Deloitte performed the role of primary systems integrator for this project and was responsible for providing assistance in the development of a multiphase implementation strategy, the execution of a pilot project, and the eventual roll out of the solution globally.
