For those folks thinking of getting a MacBook Air, here’s one less reason not to put it off. One of the complaints — other than the price — is the fact that the battery is not user-replaceable. However, according to AppleInsider, it’s not rocket science for users to swap out the MacBook Air’s battery.

People familiar with the laptop say that the process simply requires “a single size-0 type Philips screwdriver and some diligence.”

Excerpt from AppleInsider:

Once flipped upside down, the MacBook Air’s bottom cover is easily unscrewed and removed, providing immediate access to the battery cavity. From there, the battery can be unscrewed from the chassis with the same screwdriver and unplugged from the circuit board with a simple tug — it’s not soldered to the board.

Since this task can be completed by a service technician in as little as three minutes, the hypothesis is that Apple will in time offer the service at its retail stores.

I guess it won’t be long before DIY MacBook Air batteries flood the market.
