Apple may be planning several products for the mobile devices market based on Intel’s Silverthorne processor.

An excerpt from Apple Insider:

Now, rather than begging its PowerPC partners to deliver customized parts suitable for the products it wants to build, Apple has access to a smorgasbord of CPUs from Intel and enthusiastic support for the kind of hardware applications both companies share a vision for delivering. Before partnering with Apple, Intel expressed frustration with the lack of creativity among the more conservative PC makers.

The most likely devices claimed to be based on the Silverthorne processor are the 3G iPhone and a tablet PC.

The move may also bring new life to Intel’s mobile initiatives.
