The Monster Cable press event was pretty much a non-event for the first 20 minutes or so. The CEO came in on a Segway (if that tells you anything) and explained the new consumer education program they were launching with Disney. The intent of the program is to help consumers understand how to get the right cable for their new HDTV purchase. Not exactly CES-worthy stuff.

Jason Hiner and I, who were standing in the back of the room, got a glimpse of the main attraction before the rest of the room. Dr. Dre and record executive Jimmy Iovine were slipped in the backdoor and hung out in the back for a few minutes before being brought to the stage for a product announcement.

Dre and Iovine have partnered with Monster Cable to launch Beats. Beats are a new line of full dynamic range headphones that let consumers hear music the way producers, like Dre, intended.

Not sure if that was really worth a CES press conference or not; however, it did give us our first celebrity sighting of the week 🙂
