Nigel Underwood, former CIO of DHL Logistics, is no stranger to the silicon.com CIO50 – this year marks his third appearance on the three-year-old list, a hat-trick for the football mad tech chief.

Underwood is currently pursuing a number of interim assignments after leaving Deutsche Post World Net earlier this year where he had been DHL Logistics CIO since 2005.

At DHL, Underwood was tasked with leading the IT integration with Exel, following its £3.7bn acquisition of the company where he had been CIO since 2001. Prior to joining Exel Underwood was senior VP, IT for the Hilton Group.

Integration post-acquisition also characterised Underwood’s time at Exel, where he was responsible for a cost-cutting consolidation and global supply-chain programme following its £328m acquisition of logistics company Tibbett & Britten.

Underwood spent his early career with consumer goods companies Boots, Coca-Cola Schweppes and Mars. And holds a mathematics BSc from The University of Nottingham.

He is a passionate supporter and associate director of Lincoln City Football Club.
