Birmingham City Council’s corporate director of business change, returns to the silicon.com CIO50 for the second year in a row. Glyn Evans has spent almost three decades working in local government IT – including both support and management roles.

Evans joined Birmingham City Council in late 2003, as its director of business solutions and IT – spearheading a business transformation programme aimed at cutting IT costs and boosting staff productivity.

In his current role he’s made change a staple of his day job, taking on responsibility for ensuring no corner of the council shrinks from the business of transformation.

Prior to Birmingham, Evans worked as head of e-services for the London Borough of Camden, and before that he was head of ICT for the Knowsley Metropolitan Borough.

In addition to the day job, he’s a VP of Socitm and is a member of the government’s CIO Council. He also sits on the Local CIO Council and the Local Government Delivery Council.
