Grant Nairn is director of technology and innovation at Scottish Water, where he’s responsible for IT, business change and innovation.

IT has a big and increasingly important role to play at the utility, which has a new focus on delivering efficiency savings and boosting service and customer satisfaction.

As part of a new five-year IT strategy, Nairn is heading up a major tech investment programme – with the aim of improving data and real-time control and optimisation of operations, plus providing increasingly sophisticated asset and risk management systems.

Prior to joining Scottish Water, Nairn worked at HBOS. He joined the company as its head of IT strategy before moving on to become head of Enterprise Platforms and being tasked with looking after the bank’s SAP and Oracle estate.

Nairn started his career at Andersen Consulting where he spent seven years working on large-scale systems integration projects before moving to McKinsey & Co where he advised clients on IT strategy, M&A and operations.

He has a first class honours degree in Physics, lives in Edinburgh, and is married with two children.
