Job Title : CIO
Organization : Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency
Paul Evans joined the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) as CIO in March 2009. He has responsibility for overseeing £200m-worth of IT services and development programmes, delivered through an internal team and an outsourcing contract with IBM.
In the past year, Evans has renegotiated an extension of the IBM contract from 2012 to 2015, resulting in a £128m saving over the life of the contract.
Under his stewardship, the DVLA executive board agreed to invest in IT to meet the needs of a strategic reshuffle of the organisation as recommended by Evans.
Evans is also a member of the Department for Transport (DfT) senior CIO team and is the DfT lead for government datacentre, G-Cloud and apps store initiatives.
Prior to joining the DVLA, Evans spent 14 years in pharmaceuticals working his way up from analyst programmer to head of IT UK, before joining Gallaher, a FTSE 100 company, as their CIO.
Evans’ outside interests, when he is not being a taxi service to his children, are fishing, gardening and bridge.
