Pete Connor has been group IS director for Home Retail Group since October 2006 and is responsible for the technology strategy for more than 700 Argos stores, Homebase and the company's in-house financial services business.

Connor makes his debut on the silicon.com CIO50 list this year, making it into the top 10.

He started his career with software house CAP where he was trained in information systems, before moving to Mars Group Services for five years. He then joined Coca-Cola Schweppes in 1987 where he held a number of senior systems roles.

Following this he joined Argos in 1997, where he was soon made information systems director. Home Retail Group was created in 2006 when Argos, along with Homebase and the financial services business, were demerged from Great Universal Stores.

In February, the Homebase version of the service was launched along with a free text order update system.
