Job Title : CIO
Organization : Lloyd’s
Peter Hambling, CIO of insurance market Lloyd’s, returns to the CIO50 list after featuring on the list in its inaugural year.
Hambling has been CIO of Lloyd’s since 2007, heading up its specialist insurance markets IT group.
Hambling spent 20 years at the Midland Bank and then HSBC, after the banking giant bought Inner Product, a company Hambling founded early in the 1980s when he was just 18 years old. The company pioneered the use of PCs in financial services and provided trading calculators and consulting services to foreign exchange and commodities trading organisations.
At HSBC he was responsible for designing and supervising the build of HSBC’s second-generation global e-commerce platforms: these now run 48 personal financial services businesses and 18 commercial banking businesses globally, servicing more than 30 million customers.
He has led teams pioneering, developing and supporting very large complex multi-channel distributed global trading systems, associated integration middleware and market data infrastructure.
Hambling keeps himself occupied outside the day job too – he’s a private helicopter pilot, keen sailor, amateur diver and enthusiastic photographer.
