Job Title : CIO
Organization : BAA
Since September 2008 Philip Langsdale has been CIO of BAA, the airport operator that runs Heathrow and Stansted airports.
As a member of BAA’s executive committee, he has responsibility for reshaping IT across BAA to help the operator improve its services, reduce operational costs and streamline business processes.
To this end, Langsdale delivered a year-on-year reduction in BAA’s IT costs of 30 per cent in 2009. Langsdale hopes to increase efficiencies even further through a review of the way that BAA sources its IT services from outside organisations.
Langsdale has more than 30 years’ experience of delivering improved IT capabilities in top tech roles, having served as CIO for Asda and Midland Bank, and as the CEO of BBC Technology. He has also acted as an advisor to the Board of British Airways.
Outside of the world of IT, Langsdale is a non-executive director of the UK Hydrographic Office and is the owner and chairman of yacht makers Cornish Crabbers LLP.
His interests include sailing, opera and mathematical economics.
