Job Title : CIO
Organization : Bank of England
Simon Moorhead became the first CIO in the Bank of England’s 315-year history in November 2008 and has played a key role in supporting the bank’s response to the financial crisis over the past two years.
During this period, his main priority has been to shift the focus of the IT team to enabling business value by helping analysts and policy makers.
Data and information is as important as the technology itself in Moorhead’s role and as a member of the bank’s senior management team he works with the organisation’s leadership to determine where tech and information can help deliver business goals.
Moorhead also oversees a portfolio of trading and payments system that underpin the country’s financial infrastructure along with a number of knowledge and analytical systems that inform decisions about the UK’s monetary policy.
Before joining the Bank of England, Moorhead held a similar role for the global sales and services division at Reuters. Before that, he was a strategy and change consultant at Ernst & Young and Capgemini and started his career at Midland Bank (now HSBC).
