Stephen Norman became CIO for Royal Bank of Scotland’s global banking and markets division in June 2005.

Before joining RBS, Norman worked at Merrill Lynch for 10 years and Paribas Capital markets from 1991 to 1996. He’s worked in various locations around the world including New York and Asia, and has looked after large-scale software projects and departments, global infrastructure, and sourcing strategies.

Before he became involved with capital markets, Norman ran his own software company, Direct Technology. He has a PhD from Stanford University in California and an MA in Physics and Philosophy from Balliol College, Oxford.

When not managing RBS’s technology, Norman is a keen runner and organised a team that ran in the London marathon last year.
