Mike Wright has been head of technology at investment management business Man Group since 2007 and this is the third time he has appeared on the CIO50 list during that period.
While at Man Group, Wright has significantly reduced costs by consolidating three legacy CRM systems into a single system and has created a global platform to support the company’s integrated Hong Kong hedge fund business.
Prior to joining Man Group, Wright was managing director for systems at Fidelity International and for eight years before that was group IT director at the Willis Group. In these roles, along with his current one, Wright has overseen IT in a number of countries including India, Switzerland, the UK and the US.
Before entering the world of work, Wright graduated from Oxford University with an MA in Biochemistry, for which he researched Parkinson’s disease. After graduating, between 1984 and 1997, Wright worked as an IT and general business consultant for Accenture and McKinsey.
Wright then founded and ran a software company for four years was a non-executive chairman of another software start-up which produced digital rights management technology.
As well as his day job, Wright is an adviser to HP and sits on Accenture’s Global CIO panel as part of a Boston University-run initiative looking at the development of offshoring and outsourcing.
When not in the office, Wright enjoys spending time with his family, watching sport and travelling. He also works with several charitable organisations.
