Job Title : CIO

Organization : BAA

BAA CIO Philip Langsdale has been in the role since September 2008. This is the second time Langsdale has appeared on the CIO50 list following his debut in 2010.

Since his arrival at the airport operator, Langsdale has helped the organisation save around £120m while improving service quality. He has also commenced work on a £400m IT transformation project at Heathrow while using technology to help the company’s other UK airports operate more independently.

Langsdale has worked in IT for more than 30 years, having served as CIO for Asda and Midland Bank, CEO of BBC Technology and as an adviser to the British Airways board.

Langsdale is also a non-executive director of the UK Hydrographic Office – which is part of the Ministry of Defence – and is a member of the e-skills UK board.

Langsdale is also the owner and chairman of the Cornish Crabbers LLP boatbuilding company. His other interests include sailing, opera and mathematics.
