As IT director for Crossrail – the project to build an east-west railway across London – Neil Farmer is implementing the IT that supports Europe’s largest construction programme.
Farmer joined Crossrail in 2009, and he and his team are responsible for establishing the core business systems, technologies and IT services needed at each stage of delivery of the project.
He has two decades of international experience in a variety of roles, from defining strategy to managing large IT-enabled international change programmes at major blue-chip companies.
Before joining Crossrail, Farmer held a number of IT leadership and consultancy roles with major organisations in the UK and overseas, including posts at SABMiller, Chubb, Tate & Lyle and Coopers & Lybrand.
During his career, Farmer has acquired expertise across a range of areas, including programme and change management, ERP-CRM selection and implementation, IT infrastructures and standards and IT outsourcing.
