In this installment of Ask Jack, I answer a question from TechRepublic reader Peter about Bodhi Linux.
Q: I have Bodhi dual booting with XP Pro on my lappie & like it so far. I’d like to change the desktop background image but so far no success. I’ve tried right clicking on an image and selecting set as background, but there’s no change. Could you perhaps cover this in a follow up article on Bodhi?
A: First and foremost, thank you so much for writing in Peter. The answer to the question is simple — once you know where to look. Remember, Bohdi Linux uses Enlightenment as the desktop, so things work a bit differently. To change the wallpaper, do the following:
- From anywhere on the desktop, click the left mouse button.
- Click Settings | Wallpaper.
- From this new window, click Picture (Figure A).
- In the new window, navigate to where your wallpaper is stored and select the desired wallpaper.
- Click OK.
- Select how you want to layout the wallpaper (Tile, Stretch, Center, Fill), and select the file quality.
- If you want to make that wallpaper for a specific desktop only, click Advanced and then select All Desktops or This Desktop.
- Click OK.
The wallpaper should change now.

Click the Online button to open a widget that will allow you to browse online wallpaper.
You can also select the default Theme wallpaper. Most E17 themes come packaged with a pre-configured wallpaper. When you apply the theme, the wallpaper will apply as well. If you want to go back to the theme wallpaper, do the following:
- Left mouse click the desktop.
- Click Settings | Wallpaper.
- Select the checkbox for Use Theme Wallpaper.
- Your Bodhi Linux wallpaper should now be changed!
