Most consultants wouldn’t think of accepting an engagement with a client unless they had a signed contract to back up the specific pay rate or the length of the engagement. But, in some instances, you can get by without having to use a contract. In those situations, a letter of agreement works just fine.

This sample letter would be best suited to independent consultants who might pick up a small contract between large engagements. Included in this sample is:

  • Language specifying that the letter will serve as the agreement.
  • An area for spelling out the services that the consultant will provide and for whom.
  • Sections that specify how much the consultant will be paid.

All of this is fairly straightforward. If you anticipate having to submit invoices for your work, it’s probably to your advantage to work with a standard contract.
