For those of us who fondly remember the NES Zapper light gun and the many hours spent fragging hyperspeed waterfowl, Nintendo proudly presents the Wii Zapper, which is simply a gun-like mount for a Wiimote and nunchuck attachment. Nonetheless, it set my retro-gaming impulses into overdrive. And the Zapper is just one of three new Wii controllers to make its debut at this year’s E3.
The second is the Wii Balance Board, which harkens back to the old Amiga joyboards and will be packaged with the new Wii Fit exercise gameset. Hopefully, it will be more successful than the late, lamented NES Power Pad, which was far too ahead of its (Dance Dance Revolution) time.
The third controller is the much overdue Steering Wiil (not the official name, but I can’t resist a lame pun). It will ship with Mario Kart Wii, which will have an online showdown component, guaranteeing that xkcd‘s axiom of inappropriate language will be visited upon households across the planet. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
And before you ask, yes, I’m already angling for some Cracking Open galleries on all these objects. With any luck, we’ll have the office game room stocked ASAP.
