I finally started writing again last night, after the long, painful fallout from my infamous Asimov’s magazine rejection letter.
Strangely, this story is based on a bolt of inspiration I got last
Friday while gearing up for the local sci-fi con. It’s nothing to do
ideas I’ve posted recently. I’m pretty excited. It’s tangentially
sci-fi, maybe fantasy, but above all, it’s a “small” story. No epic
conspiracies, or genre-straddling gen-mod horror prison breaks. It’s a
character story, with only the plot impetus making it about sci-fi or
fantasy. I hope that keeps me on track. I want this one to come in
under 3000 words, so I’ve got to make the whole thing pretty tight.
That’s a challenge for me. Keep pushing the envelope.
