Mozilla’s chief security officer (CSO) Window Snyder is again coming under fire as the firms open source browser Firefox is being compromised by new exploitable vulnerabilities almost daily. While Mozilla are making every effort to patch any vulnerability as soon as it’s discovered; browsers are becoming the number one target for malicious attacks. These attacks are becoming more sophisticated with some malicious web servers actually detecting the browser version and selecting a suitable exploit to enable the victims computer to be breached. Attackers are also starting to cover their tracks and elude detection—IBM’s X-Force research team say that around 50% of malicious traffic observed in 2006 was encrypted.
I’ll be very interested to see which browser fairs best in 2007, Firefox or IE7…
