What’s a weekend without some type of world championship tournament?  It’s the fall… A little early for football though.  This is The Geekend, so I must be talking Chess, right?

Nope – it’s the Rock, Paper, Scissors championships to be held in Toronto this weekend. And there’s more than just Glory on the line. There’s also a cold hard $10,000 cash prize. Ok, it’s Canadian Dollars, but that’s still a lot of money. This is an international tournament with over 500 participants from countries all over the world.

I had never heard of such a thing until there was a report on NPR about it this morning. For more information about it, check out the World RPS Society Page. It’s not quite the WWE, but it sounds pretty close!

For an even geekier version of  Rock, Paper, Scissors, check out this version – Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock. It increases the randomness of the game.  There’s also this version with over 101 different hand gestures. The inventor claims that there are about 5050 different possible outcomes.
