Broadcaster BSkyB (Sky) have teamed up with Google to develop new web based services to their customers.  This is the latest in a series of partnerships formed as internet service providers attempt to broaden the services offered and move towards providing on-demand media products.

Sky, the UK’s largest satellite television broadcaster has been offering a free broadband Internet service to their customers.  This partnership with Google will see the introduction of a free Google Gmail service using @sky.com addresses as well as Google powered search services and advertising on Sky’s range of websites.

The most interesting part of this announcement is that Sky will launch a User Generated Video portal that is to be powered by Googles video content tools.  Most people will be aware of Googles recent acquisition of YouTube–the largest UGV host to date.  This will surely give them a huge competitive advantage over other ISP’s and their attempts to launch similar services.
