The search engine company continues to roll out Application Programming Interfaces (API) for Web developers. This time, it’s the Google Trends API, a tool to view the general trends in search.

An excerpt from News.com:

Google Trends allows people to see trends in searches. You can compare specific searches, see how the search volume for search terms changes over time with interactive graphs, and even see the top 100 searches for any given day. You can also see how spikes and drops in searches are linked to news and blog items.

Google Trends provides visual data on the characteristics of searches performed over the engine. The graph can also be used to analyze the appearance of search terms in news and blogs.

The Google Trends API will follow other APIs released by Google, such as the Maps API, the Google Gears API, and the recently announced OpenSocial API.
