Over the last few months, the job market has deteriorated dramatically. In times like this, many companies are choosing to let deadlines slip and lay off development staff, who tend to be very well compensated compared to most other employees in the typical company. Many developers are responding by finding ways to increase their value in the hopes that it will either reduce the need for layoffs or ensure that they are retained.
