IBM will acquire Solid Information Technology, the makers of embedded databases. The deal is expected to add value to IBM’s line of data access technologies.

An excerpt from PC World:

The IBM acquisition may be seen as a setback for MySQL, since it marks the loss of independence of another company that makes a high-performance transaction engine for MySQL’s database.

MySQL, the open-source DB which deploys a transaction engine based on Solid’s database will probably now have to look out for other alternatives.
