Last week I mentioned that the US
state of Massachusetts
is moving away from using
propriatary Microsoft Office formats in favor of the Open
Document Format–Novell
also took another goverment contract to add to their growing
list. Today I came across a story on neoseeker stating
that IBM Germany will be moving their desktop systems over
to Linux!
A quote from the LinuxForum
2006 Day 2 is very interesting:
“Andreas Pleschek also told that IBM has cancelled
their contract with Microsoft as of October this year. That means that IBM will
not use Windows Vista for their desktops. Beginning from July, IBM employees
will begin using IBM Workplace on their new, Red Hat-based platform. Not all at
once – some will keep using their present Windows versions for a while. But
none will upgrade to Vista.”I wonder if this is a sign of things to come? Will the rest of IBM follow suit?
