Twenty-two years ago–Jan. 28, 1986–we lost the space shuttle Challenger. A mere five years ago on Friday–Feb. 1, 2003–we lost her sister ship, Columbia. Below is a selection or articles that pay tribute to all that was taken from us on those fateful days, and everything else those momentous and noble craft help us gain.
- Geek Trivia: What symbolic item survived the Challenger disaster completely unscathed?
- Geek Trivia: What famous explorer captained the naval vessels from which two space shuttles take their name?
- Geek Trivia: What is the origin of NASA craft OV-098, the “eighth space shuttle?”
I have been critical of the shuttle program in the past, but never have I doubted the devotion, sacrifice, bravery, or scientific contributions of the men and women who made these spacecraft fly. May their journeys never end.
