Lately, I have been hearing that Ubuntu is an easy Linux distribution to install and it is easier to install than Windows XP. I have even heard remarks that “My grandmother could install Ubuntu.” With that being said, I did virtual installs of both Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 to see which one I felt was easier.
The XP interface was easier to work with but had many more screens to work through than the Ubuntu Linux.
But…
At the end of the day, I did not find one easier to install than the other. So all of you Linux zealots that say it is so much easier to install Linux than Windows XP are wrong and I will even go out on a limb and say that Windows Vista will be easier to install than any Linux distribution available today.
I have created screenshot galleries for you to view the Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and the Ubuntu Linux installations (and a few others):
- Ubuntu Linux Gallery
- Windows XP Professional w/ Service Pack 2 Gallery
- Suse Linux 10
- Windows Vista
- Xandros desktop OS 3.0
After working through my galleries, take my poll on which operating system you feel is easier to install.
Note: The poll was created on snappoll.com.
