In response to last weeks price cuts made by AMD, Intel have

drastically dropped

prices of some top spec consumer CPUs.

The Pentium 960D (3.6Ghz) has been cut by 40% from £285 to around £170.  This is the latest move in the battle to

dominate the consumer CPU market share—although AMD gained in past months, this

latest price drop followed by the release of the new Core 2 Duo processors may

help Intel to turn things around; sales fell by 13% and profits dropped by 57%

in the last quarter. This recent price/technology war has to be a good thing for those of us who would like to add a little more kick to our desktops without breaking the bank!
