A brief history of IoT
In the 1980s and early 1990s, the concept of adding sensors and intelligence to commonplace items became a topic of discussion. However, the technology didn’t yet exist to make it happen, so progress was initially slow.
A breakthrough occurred in 1999 when Kevin Ashton, a British technology pioneer, coined the phrase “Internet of Things.” It was his idea to use radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to track product inventory.
