Well, I am now the proud owner of two Asimov’s magazine rejection letters. Yesterday, I finally got smacked down for the space vampire story
I submitted on July 14. I currently don’t have another story under
submission, but I suppose this is as good a motivating factor as any.
Like they say, it gets easier over time, and the second letter didn’t
sting as bad as the first. Don’t get me wrong, it’s depressing as hell,
but I guess the second punch never hurts as bad as the first, if only
because you know what to expect.
Maybe I’m destined for a career in mediocre nonfiction,
and higher literary aspirations are beyond my grasp. Or I haven’t
learned how not to suck yet. Either way, I’m too stubborn to give up
now.
Back to the salt mines.
