Did you know that you can map a virtual disk in Workstation 6 right from the graphical user interface (GUI)? Instead of powering the virtual machine (VM) up to copy and paste data between the guest and the host OS, you could simply map a virtual disk to the host computer and perform your maintenance, etc.

Note: At this point you can only use this feature with Windows. If you try to use this with Linux, you will be prompted to format your disk. Furthermore, once you map a drive, you will not be able to power up your vm until you disconnect the mapped drive.

Please take a look at what Workstation 6 has to offer.

I created a video blog that provides you with an example. The video blog link will open up Windows Media Player on your local machine and play my video.
