Samsung WiMAX UMPC

I spotted this little gizmo over at Samsung’s booth. The device folds open (three separate folds) to reveal a QWERTY keyboard with a fully operational Windows XP operating system running beneath the hood. And it also comes with Wi-Fi, HSPA, and WiMAX. It brings a whole new meaning to “mobile” office. Your eyesight aside, that is.

I didn’t want to clutter up the Network blog with an excessive number of photos, so if you are interested, you can check out more photos that I snapped of the Samsung UMPC here.

Mobile data goes M2M

If you still haven’t figured it out yet, mobile data has already fully penetrated into the M2M, or Machine-to-Machine level. The tools are all out there to enable users to collect data from remote machines, or even to control them. Some devices, like the one shown in the photo, are even capable of VPN/IPsec for security.

Masterclock

I spotted this over at the Masterclock booth. You will want to know about them if you are the CIO for a large corporation or a campus or if keeping accurate time is critical — such as at a stock exchange. An NTP server is calibrated against a satellite time source. And you thought NTP was boring stuff. As with the UMPC, more photos are available here.

Discuss the above hardware here.
