Chipmaker Marvell has unveiled a new 802.11n Draft 2 chipset that can pump out data at up to 450 Mbps, up from the standard 300Mbps. The new silicon, dubbed TopDog, will be demonstrated at Marvell’s booth at CES 2008.

Excerpt from Network World:

Unusually [the new silicon] supports sending and receiving three “spatial streams.” A stream of data is encoded into three substreams, each transmitted by a separate antenna in a technique called multiple-input multiple-output.

Marvell claims that the new chipset will increase signal range by 160 percent and is compliant with 802.11n specifications.
