If you’ve been following the OLPC news, you shoulde remember that it launched a Give 1 Get 1 (G1G1) program in November last year. The scheme allowed individuals to obtain an OLPC XO laptop for themselves by making a donation of $399, or twice the cost of what a unit will cost.
However, initial production delays, compounded by shipping problems, is causing users to get increasingly frustrated.
A serious software glitch rendered inaccurate the delivery addresses of many G1G1 participants who made their donation through PayPal… those familiar with the delivery chain believe that Patriot, the company that handles the order processing, is responsible.
In an interview with PC World:
OLPC representative Jackie Lustig acknowledged the problems and apologized to donors. “There have been delays in getting the laptops to those who generously donated to the program. And we are sorry.”
Still, is it entirely right to blame what is ultimately a non-profit organization for the delays?
