The Swordfish framework will bring together components required for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) on Eclipse.

An excerpt from TechWorld:

Based on technology sourced from Deutsche Post, the framework, known as Swordfish, features an SOA runtime platform that uses three popular projects: Service Component Architecture (SCA), Java Business Integration (JBI), and Open Services Gateway initiative (OSGi). SCA provides a common programming model and assembly description format while JBI serves as a common messaging model. OSGi, which is the basis of the Eclipse runtime platform, provides common deployment and runtime component models in Swordfish.

The SOA framework is about packaging business processes and functionality as individual units or services that can be consumed by business applications.

The open-source framework will include components for messaging, security, Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), and support third-party Enterprise Service Buses (ESBs).
