Cars have carried onboard computes for decades and modern mobile microprocessors control everything from engine performance to the car’s instrument cluster. Yet until recently, automakers have kept a car’s computing power under the hood. This trend is slowly changing as tech-savvy drivers search for ways to extend their computing experience to their car. While automakers gradually introduce more-visible automotive computers, technology and auto enthusiasts have taken matters into their own hands.
