The Washington

Post reports that on June 29th officials announced that the

Laptop stolen from an employee of the Department of Veterans Affairs had been

recovered.  The Laptop hosted a database

containing the personal details (names, dob, social security numbers etc) of

millions of current and former personnel.

The recovered laptop and external hard drive is now in possession

of law enforcement agencies who will be conducting a forensic analysis, they

claim that “there is reason to be optimistic.”

The stolen equipment was returned after the advertisement of

a $50,000 reward.  FBI agent William D

Chase said that it’s too early to say whether the person will be given the

reward or face criminal charges—however an FBI spokeswoman said that the

tipster is not a suspect.
