Sun Microsystems has entered a deal with mobile synchronization and device management company, Synchronica PLC. As part of the contract, Sun will license key components of the Synchronica Mobile Gateway for integration with products from its Communications and Applications software divisions.

An excerpt from the article at CRM Today:

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, said: “This deal marks the beginning of a long term, strategic relationship with Sun and is a major milestone in Synchronica’s development. Sun is a key driver of the global software industry and, in particular, in the telecommunications and enterprise software markets. Integrating Synchronica’s SyncML technology with Sun’s core software products will create a scalable route to market and broaden the adoption of our software in the marketplace.”

The deal provides Sun with an opportunity to expand its reach to mobile devices and also provides its Application server developers with the technology to create feature-rich mobile applications. The technology will also alleviate manual device configuration woes by enabling the configuration to be carried out over the air.

Another excerpt from the article at IT Pro:

Sun also confirmed its plans to make use of Synchronica’s SyncML clients for Windows Mobile, Pocket PC, and Palm OS to ensure that even smartphones that don’t support SyncML out of the box can benefit from the same level of synchronization as those that do.
