After
passing through the “buzzword” and “fifteen minutes of fame” stages, Big Data
is starting to deliver on its promise by showing genuine benefit in the
organization. We reported on the definitions, strategies, challenges and
initiatives surrounding Big Data in November 2012, and we are now circling
around to take a closer look at the costs involved.
As
we indicated at that time, Gartner predicted that Big Data would be worth $34
billion (U.S. dollars) in worldwide spending in 2013, so we’d like to see where
that money is going. Our goal is to demonstrate how and where investments in
Big Data are being directed and if they’re paying off as expected. With that in
mind, we’d like to get your input on how your company has pursued the lure of
Big Data and whether the steak has been worth the sizzle.
