First allow me to apologize to everyone for my extremely extended absence. I have suffered from cystinuria and hyperoxaluria all of my life and I finally had a health crisis.
So now that we are all caught up on where the dickens I have been, it’s on to the topic of the power of the word. Humans have an affinity for using phrases to enpower ourselves in everything from political rallies to trivia games at the local establishment serving the adult libation of your choice. Movies and books have provided many quotes that all of us just love to use from time to time. These are some of my favorites:
AVP: Alien vs. Predator (which was a lousy movies):
Lance Henriksen: [After the Predator scans him and sees that he is damaged and it turns its back on him] Don’t you turn your back on me!
The Prophecy:
Lucifer (Viggo Mortensen) to Thomas (Elias Koteas) : “Leave the light on Thomas.”
Infinite Crisis:
Kal-L (The Earth 2 Superman) [Helping Superboy-Prime break the walls of the prison that holds them]: “This looks like a job for SUPERMAN!”
The Shadow Radio Plays:
The Shadow (Frank Readick, accompanied by the strains of an excerpt from Opus 31 of the Camille Saint-Saëns classical composition, “Le Rouet d’Omphale”) : “The weed of crime bears bitter fruit.”
Hellraiser:
Pinhead (Doug Bradley) : Explorers in the further regions of experience. Demons to some. Angels to others.
Lost in Space (the series) :
Robot (voiced by Dick Tufield) : “Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!
Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris, the one and ONLY!) :
“Silence, you ninny.”
“Silence, you mental midget.”
“Never fear, Smith is here.” (I think that one ought to be required saying by any IT management that decides to “help” on an issue!)
Pirates of the Caribbean:
Captain Jack Sparow (Johnny Depp) : “Do us a favor… I know it’s difficult for you… but please, stay here, and try not to do anything… stupid…”
Look forward to hearing everyone’s favorites.
