I just bought a very fast new desktop computer from Wal-Mart for a good price. It is an HP Pavilion a1483w. Here are the specifications of the computer. A high level overview of my reasonably priced desktop is the following:

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Dual Core Processor
  • 2.0 GB Memory
  • 250 GB SATA Drive
  • nVidia GeForce  256 mb video card

After opening the box, I noticed on this computer in the lower-left hand corner a small sticker that said Designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista Capable. After doing a little research, I found out what that actually means and I think it is a very clever way of preparing people for Windows Vista.

Basically, any computer designated with this sticker will run Windows Vista without any issues. There are various levels though. You might not be able to run Aero Glass (Vista UI) on some versions but it will still be capable of running Windows Vista with a lower level Aero UI.
