Hard way
Many Tech Support members may say:
- Go to Start
- Click Run
- Type in “cmd” (without the quotes)
- Click OK
- On the command line, type “ipconfig” (without the quotes)
- Press enter
- Click the top left-hand corner small symbol c:\
- Go to Edit
- Click Select All
- Click the top left hand-corner small symbol c:\ again
- Go to Edit
- Click Copy
- Close the cmd window
- Locate Windows Notepad
- Once Notepad is open, click on Edit and then Paste
- Save the document as “ipconfig.log” (without the quotes)
- Locate the saved ipconfig.log
- Attach this document to a new reply
(Note I left out Vista Elevated Command Prompt being: Ctrl-Shift-Enter)
It continues…
It continues…
It continues…
All this just to get the user to save an IPConfig log! I’d say they probably won’t post back.
If I saw this for the first time, I’d be saying, “Forget it! I’m not doing all that!” Member lost.

Easy way
- Go to Start
- Click Run
- Enter the following command: cmd /c ipconfig /all >Desktop\Ipconfig.log
- Attach the ipconfig.log file (located on your Desktop) to a new reply
(you can just copy and paste that long command into Run)
I hope this helps many Tech Support members!
