If you use your Android tablet for business on the go, and you find yourself having to sign a document away from your desk, what do you do? That’s easy. Just install the free DocuSign Ink app on your device, open the document, and then add your signature. Believe it or not, it really is that simple.
With DocuSign Ink, you can sign nearly any type of document: images, word processor docs, PDFs, and much more. The interface is very easy to use, allowing you to quickly drag and drop your signature into any location on the document. Once you’ve signed the document, you can then email the file to a recipient. The recipient will also receive a certificate of authenticity from DocuSign — a one-two punch that helps prove the validity of your signed document.
Let’s walk through the process of signing a document with DocuSign Ink.
Naturally, the application must be installed on the device first. To install this fine app, follow these steps:
- Open up the Google Play Store
- Search for “docusign” (no quotes)
- Tap the entry for the application
- Tap Install
- Tap Accept & download
Once installed, you’ll find the launcher in your app drawer. Tap it, and you’ll be prompted to create a free account (Figure A).

There is very little setup to be done. What you must do is create your identity (your signature). To do this, tap the Manage Identity button from the DocuSign Ink main page (Figure B).
A very clean interface is a sign of good things to come.
Once you’re in the Manage Identity window (Figure C), all you need to do is draw your signature and initials, and then tap I Agree.
You can also snap a photo of your signature if your finger can’t do the job properly.
After you’ve set up your identity, you’re ready to start signing documents. You can practice on the included sample documents, or you can sign documents and images that are already on your tablet. The My Documents section will include both the samples and any documents you’ve signed (taken from your device memory or SD card). Here is the process for signing a document:
- Tap Sign a Document
- Select where you want to find the document to be signed
- Locate and open the document to be signed
- Once the document is open, tap the pencil icon (upper right corner)
- Tap Signature (Figure D)
- Drag the signature block to where you need it to appear on the document
- Add any other elements you need (Initials, My Name, Date Signed, Text, or Checkbox)
- After you’ve added everything you need, tap Finish, and then tap Yes

After the document has been secured, you’ll be prompted by the “Send document via” overlay. Tap the method for sending (such as Gmail), and send your newly signed document (which will now be in PDF format).
At any time, you can change your signature or manage the privacy settings associated with your identity. To make changes to the signature, do the following:
- From the DocuSign Ink main page, tap Manage Identity
- From the ID card, tap Edit
- Redraw your signature/initials
- Tap I Accept
You can also manage the privacy settings. You can include the following information to your identity:
- Display Company/Title
- Display Address/Phone
- Display usage history
To add these elements, tap Privacy Settings, and then select what you want from the resulting screen (Figure E).
If you change your mind on these, simply come back to this screen and deselect what you don’t want.
