We’re coming up on the 50th anniversary of the original LEGO patent (click here for a LEGO photo retrospective) , so what better way to celebrate than by assembling the largest complete LEGO model kit ever released–a 5,000-piece scale replica of the Millennium Falcon. Boing Boing Gadgets editor Joel Johnson spent several nights piecing this behemoth together, though he’s graciously time-lapsed the process down to 3.5 minutes, for your viewing convenience.

Now, this item should not be confused with the original #4504 Millennium Falcon LEGO kit–shown here assembling itself–which has a mere 985 pieces, less than one fifth what the Ultimate Star Wars LEGO monstrosity brings to the table.
