Physicist-slash-fanboy Dr. Jim Kakalios explains how the death of Gwen Stacy, one of the seminal events in the Spider-Man comic book mythos, demonstrates the laws of Newtonian physics. These scientific principles bear little to no resemblance to the end sequence of the first Spider-Man film, which was an homage to Stacy’s death, but somehow involved the Green Goblin holding up a multi-ton cablecar by hand (it doesn’t matter how super-strong you are, Greeny, you don’t have enough mass to balance that weight). Comics, in some cases, are more realistic than movies.
