Industry insiders challenge Microsoft promises that Windows Vista Ultimate not only provides everything found in Vista Enterprise and Vista Home Premium but also adds Ultimate Extras.

The online newsletter Windows Secrets found Windows Vista Ultimate’s sole promised benefit, the Ultimate Extras, to be a straw man in the argument for your IT funding. No new Extras have been released since Vista’s January rollout, and the DreamScene videos-as-screensaver Extra promised in March has stalled because it does not work in Arabic or Hebrew. With no actual team behind Utimate Extras, it’s easy to see why, three months later, it’s still a pre-release item.

That newsletter article continues to note other Extras are either available as downloads or are trivial (e.g., a poker game).

Did you spend extra to get Ultimate? If you did, was it a good deal? Join the discussion.
